Social Networking Scalability Issues

Anyone who’s ever dealt with a traffic spike from their dating or social network being Slashdotted (or having an extraordinary marketing team) might find this of interest.

Brad at LiveJournal did presentation a few years ago called “Holy hell that’s a lot of hits” which outlines in detail how they scaled up the Livejournal web and database server infrastructure to deal with mega-traffic growth.

Fascinating for the technology types and important for executives to understand how complex dynamic web apps have become and how getting it right can make or break a site (see Friendster).

How Effective is eHarmony?

I’m in the process of moving the blog. The next handfull of posts will be links to what other bloggers have been writing about this week while I’ve been busy under the hood moving to a new host, domain name, blog platform and taking care of the innumerable issues that pop up during the process.

A blog called “mapping the themes of human existence” has a post about the truth about eHarmony, which I found via RateOrDate.
