This Chanukah, Give the Gift of JLove

JLove is announcing a new feature that allows anyone to purchase a JLove gift certificate for their Jewish, single friend or family member.

Yoav Cohen, JLove co-founder and CEO:

Wouldn’t it be great to know that the Gift of JLove you purchased for Chanukah resulted in a marriage? It’s a mitzvah to help two Jewish singles find love. The Gift of JLove is our gift to the global Jewish community. We want to help Jewish singles discover love.

With the Gift of JLove, the buyer is able to:

  • create a personal message to accompany the certificate
  • send the certificate on a specific date
  • choose from our 1, 3 or 5-month subscription plan
  • provide the recipient with a virtual and printable version of the certificate

Once the Gift of JLove has been redeemed, the recipient is able to use the JLove service as a premium member. The recipient can read and respond to emails, send instant messages and chat in real-time.

I was quoted in the release, it was a straight pull from a recent post on this very blog, lest anyone think I’m playing favorites.

I spent a few minutes on the phone with Yoav, who I met at the first iDate a few years ago when he was with JDate. I am following the rise of JLove closely, it will be interesting to see how much business they take from JDate. Being small, nimble, private and starting from scratch can certainly work to their advantage.

Perverts on Myspace are Getting Nervous

First it was To Catch A Predator. Now, New York Democrat Charles E. Schumer and Arizona Republican John McCain say they planned to introduce a bill at the beginning of the 110th Congress in January that would require registered sex offenders to submit their active email addresses to law enforcement.

Last week, MySpace said it would offer in the next 30 days a technology to identify and block convicted sex offenders from the popular online social network. Myspace struck a deal with Sentinel Tech Holding Corp., to build the new feature.

There are 550,000 registered sex offenders in the United States, tracked from 46 state sex offender registries. What about the other four states?

New Year's is around the corner and that means your New Year's Eve party planning is in full effect. I'm not one to say there's anything wrong with a few beverages this holiday season. But you've got to know...

HippiePersonals.com auction came and went with 0 bids. Dude!

Eharmony has increased the payout for their affiliate program until Christmas. Currently they are paying $20-$75 for these actions, but during this special period will be offering $30-$125 for each gift subscription referral.

Every single week now I get comeback messaging from Meetmingle. No link to them for obvious reasons, why promote a site that refuses to respect my wishes?

Andy says Match.com is on lockdown. They no longer allow you to come back to a users page to view it without logging in. I say who cares. Match isn’t ready to let down the gates to other sites just yet and I don’t blame them, much as I enjoy checking out services that search across multiple dating sites.

Andy questions if the change was in response to Collaboradate’s use of Match profiles. I doubt it. They get better stats and hopefully that comes back to improving the user experience of the site.

Eharmony Case Study

Startup Review has published an eHarmony case study. Sections include Key success factors, Launch strategy and marketing, Exit analysis, Food for thought and Further Reading. The writer was previously an analyst at Sierra Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm. No new information that hasn’t been covered here in the past but case studies are a quick way to get up to speed on the market for entrepreneurs. I’m trying to make it easier for you to mine the information here with new categories and better search, an ongoing process. In the meantime, Startup Review is worth a look.
